OpK9ME’s focus is on education of canine handlers and EMS clinicians in the life-saving treatment for the working canine who becomes ill or injured in the line of duty. Instructors include veterinarians, veterinary technicians, canine handlers, EMS clinicians and physicians.

Basic First Aid - DATE TBA
$160.00

This is a one-day multidisciplinary course which will cover the foundations of caring for the operational canine who becomes ill or injured in the line of duty. Topics covered will include safe handling and restraint, comparative anatomy and physiology, CPR, trauma management as well as recognition of illnesses common in the working dog. This course will cover the topics included in the Maine EMT scope of practice.


Advanced First Aid
$400.00

This is a multi-day (2.5 days), multidisciplinary course. The intent is to provide the student the knowledge necessary to manage immediate life threats and to prepare the OpK9 for evacuation to definitive veterinary care. The curriculum incorporates current K9TECC guidelines with addition of common medical emergencies the operational canine may experience on duty. Students will learn the skills of advanced airway management, IV initiation, medication administration as well as other advanced procedures. This course covers the EMT, AEMT and Paramedic scopes of practice for the Maine Operational Canine Protocols.

K9 First Aid Kit for Registered Students
$300.00

If you are registered to take one of our courses, you have the opportunity to purchase a take-home K9 First Aid kit. These kits will be handed out at the end of class. You are not required to use any of the materials in the kit for the course, all course materials will be supplied.
